INTRODUCTIONIn practically every single scientific and technological field, and especially in the energy and bioengineering sectors, the application of nanostructured materials stands out as the revolution of the 21st Century. The characteristics of carbon nanotubes, enable for the creation of several different products for the environment which have particular functions and are especially suitable for the reduction of water pollution, the extraction and the refining of hydrocarbons, the remediation of contaminated sites and the development of new materials and solutions for the production of renewable energies.
However, the problem with new nanostructured materials in the environmental and renewableenergy sectors has often been their high cost, especially in cases where there are large volumes of material to be treated.
RECAM® is produced starting from a mixture of graphite, carbon and anthracite throughout a exothermic process which employs platinum catalysts in a particular hydrogen reactor. During the production process, the crystals stratify within the basal planes, as in most expanded graphite’s formation processes. But what makes this product unique on the market is that the inter-hexagonal covalent bonds break, creating a particular graphene structure.
